What to do?!

What do you do When a Monster says Boo? What do you do When a Monster says Boo? by Hope Vestergaard
You really need to listen to kids - they have the most honest and heartfelt opinions. The other day a 9 year old girl, who has 5 year old twin siblings at home, told me that What do you do when a monster says Boo was the "greatest book ever." She said that younger brothers and sisters can really be annoying when they are acting up, and that this book gives good ideas on things you can do with them instead of hitting them. Yeah, I thought a book that suggested other things besides hitting couldn't be all bad, so I gave it a read, and am now taking it home for my daughter to read and with her little brother!

Tough Chicks!

Tough Chicks Tough Chicks by Cece Meng
Not all girls enjoy dressing up in frou frou pink outfits and sipping tea. If you know a little girl like that, then make sure to remind them that it is ok to be a tough chick! Introduce them to Penny, Polly and Molly; three tough chicks who would rather wrestle a worm than quietly peck grain off the henhouse floor. Peep, peep, zoom, zip, cheep! The other animals in the baryard want the chicks to act normal and not bad. Thankfully they have a mama who reminds the animals that They're tough and they're smart and they're different in a GOOD way!. Share the story with a tough chick you know, and everyone else too!

Duck! Rabbit!

Duck! Rabbit! Is it my mood? The weather? The phase of the moon? I don't know, but this book struck me as totally clever, new and fun. Is that a duck or a rabbit on the cover? Two unseen people debate the fact and really, drawn as it is, you just can't tell - it all depends on your perspective. Great book for sharing with preschoolers or even younger elementary kids.

Toot Toot Tootsie, don't cry!

Please Don't Tease Tootsie Please Don't Tease Tootsie by Margaret Chamberlain
Torturing animals is never a good thing, and well, that is the message of this little rhyming book by Margaret Chamberlain. I adore the illustrations, but really feel the text is lacking, and almost too cute sounding for the topic being dealt with. The rhymes are clever, but a few would need some explaining to the preschool set ("Don't madden Mutley"). Nevertheless, the pictures are quite funny. If nothing else, check the book out for that!

Moo-ving story

The Cow That Was the Best Moo-ther The Cow That Was the Best Moo-ther by Andy Cutbill
Cow learns that there is a beautiful baby contest on the farm "strickly cows only", and of course she wants to enter her little one... who happens to be a chicken. Many children may wonder why in the heck this cow has a chicken for a baby if they are not familiar with the first book, "The Cow Who Laid an Egg". Then again, some kids won't even give it a second thought. I really do not think that it is a stand alone book though. You really need to read the first book before you tackle this one. Cute story though, and touching too, because every mother knows, you love your baby no matter what.
