Today is a huge day in Children's Literature! The American library Association announced the winners of their major book awards. A full list can be found here: ALA Youth Media Awards
Here are a few highlights:
The 2011 Caldecott Honor books are “Dave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave
,” illustrated by Bryan Collier, written by Laban Carrick Hill and “Interrupting Chicken
,” written and illustrated by David Ezra Stein (it's still a rooster!).
The 2011 Newbery book is "Moon over Manifest,” written by Clare Vanderpool.
The 2011 Newbery Honor books are “Turtle in Paradise
,” by Jennifer L. Holm; “Heart of a Samurai
,” written by Margi Preus; “Dark Emperor and Other Poems of the Night
,” written by Joyce Sidman, illustrated by Rick Allen; and “One Crazy Summer
,” by Rita Williams-Garcia.
