2011 ALA Youth Literature Awards


Today is a huge day in Children's Literature!  The American library Association announced the winners of their major book awards.  A full list can be found here:  ALA Youth Media Awards

Here are a few highlights:

A Sick Day for Amos McGeeThe 2011 Caldecott book is "A Sick Day for Amos McGee" by Philip C. Stead and illustrated by Erin E. Stead.

The 2011 Caldecott Honor books areDave the Potter: Artist, Poet, Slave,” illustrated by Bryan Collier, written by Laban Carrick Hill and “Interrupting Chicken,” written and illustrated by David Ezra Stein (it's still a rooster!).


The 2011 Newbery book is "Moon over Manifest,” written by Clare Vanderpool.

The 2011 Newbery Honor books areTurtle in Paradise,” by Jennifer L. Holm; “Heart of a Samurai,” written by Margi Preus; “Dark Emperor and Other Poems of the Night,” written by Joyce Sidman, illustrated by Rick Allen; and “One Crazy Summer,” by Rita Williams-Garcia.
