Surfer Chick

If everybody had an ocean
Across the U.S.A.
Then everybody'd be surfin'
Like californ-I-A
You'd see 'em wearin' their baggies
Huarachi sandals, too
A bushy bushy blonde hairdo
Surfin' U.S.A.

Seeing that stylin chick while humming the classic Beach Boys tune has me stoked to dig out my baggies and any kind of sandal too and put on the biggest, gnarliest surfin storytime ever!

Chick's dad is a primo surfer and Chick wants to be one too.  One problem, she's scared. They bought Chick a shiny new board, "it was just the right size, in a pink Chick adored."  Her first time out catching a wave ended in a total wipeout and left Chick feeling rather chicken.  After mustering her courage Chick tries again and has a totally rippin' ride.

Outrages, colorful illustrations by Henry Cole perfectly compliment the rhyming text.   Couple this with Froggy Goes to Hawaii and Pig Kahuna for a wickedly gnarly time, dude.

Zorro Gets an Outfit

In this companion book to Say Hello to Zorro! by New Yorker illustrator, Carter Goodrich, Zorro's unseen human presents him with a wonderful new superhero cape and mask costume.  Unfortunately, this does not make Zorro feel all that wonderful.  When Bud and Zorro go out for their walk, Zorro is taunted and teased by the neighboring animals.  Bud tries to cheer up his friend, but it doesn't work.  Then, at the park, Zorro sees another dog in a costume and the three of them run off on a race, happy and carefree.  What does this do to Zorro's spirit?  Check out the book to find out.

A cute read with such fun and expressive canines created by Goodrich who has also had a hand in developing characters for much loved children's movies like Finding Nemo , Monsters, Inc. ., Open Season , and Ratatouille
